Well hello, I hope you had a good weekend and enjoyed some of the festivities of National Coming Out Week.
I will post some events going on around Ames but first I want to discuss this: beating of a gay man possible hate crime. So basically this guy was attacked and beat into a coma and the guys who attacked him yelled anti-gay slurs.
This is not to get all depressed. I'm all for celebrating and for having fun, for being who we are and doing what we want. But I don't want to forget that it's not over, we are not safe yet. And if this can happen in NYC, imagine what can happen here in Iowa if we don't watch out, what is happening in some other countries.
For me this is a reminder, a reminder to do something, anything. Attend a meeting, read an article, object if I hear the phrase that's so gay, go to an alliance event or some other lgbt group to show support, even do my homework right so the professor can be: wow I didn't know a lesbian could be such a good student (believe me some people think that). And of course after doing something, anything then it is time to celebrate and party.
So for the next week here is a list of a couple of events and things to do:

Out Networking is a social, business, and philanthropic networking organization for anyone who is lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgendered, questioning or supportive. The group presents year-round events focused on business, culture, community, and philanthropic subjects.

The Iowa Pride Network College Coalition brings Iowa's college and university LGBT groups together to strengthen LGBT Organizations, work on coordinated activities across the state in order to show community and solidarity.
Well I know there is more going on but I only want to post things that I have gone in the past or are going to go just to make sure it is fun. So if you know something awesome that is going on let me know so I can post it.
